Auto Accidents

Hundreds of car accidents occur each day in Florida. In 2009, there were more than 176,700 people seen in emergency rooms around the state for injuries from car accidents. (1) Although it seems reasonable that more injuries occur during high speed car crashes, the opposite is actually true. The majority of all crashes in the United States – nearly 1.7 million – were recorded as occurring at speeds of between 35 and 40 mph in 2009. (2)

Injuries from car accidents commonly affect the neck and back. However, the severe forces at play during a vehicle’s impact with another object can cause a variety of injuries. Some of these include:

  • Facial/head Injuries - scrapes, bruises, lacerations, broken bones and tooth injuries
  • Brain injury - concussion, closed head injury or traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Neck injury – whiplash, sprain, strain or fracture
  • Arm/shoulder injuries - sprain, strain, fracture or dislocation
  • Back Injury - sprain, strain, disc injury, broken back or injury to spinal cord
  • Leg/knee/foot injuries - bruise, fracture, sprain, strain, dislocation or ligament/hip injury

Seek Medical Attention Immediately

Victims should always seek medical attention after a car accident. The shock of an accident can prevent victims from noticing pain or injuries immediately, several hours or even days after the event. Paramedics will provide a brief medical assessment at the scene of a crash. However, this should not replace a thorough medical exam.

Auto accident victims might delay seeking medical treatment to see if pain and other symptoms go away or improve. Most injuries following a car accident develop or grow worse over time. Gardens Urgent Care has evening, weekend and holiday hours to make seeking medical treatment much easier. You don’t need to make an appointment, just come in to get emergency care after a car accident for a complete evaluation.

Emergency Care at Gardens Urgent Care

Some car accident victims will visit hospital emergency rooms. In an emergency room, doctors must triage the most serious illnesses and injuries at the time, so quick relief from pain and discomfort may not be available. Long waits often discourage many people from seeking medical treatment, allowing the symptoms of injuries that develop in the hours and days following a car accident to get worse. At Gardens Urgent Care, our friendly and helpful staff will act as quickly as possible to take a complete medical history and a doctor will conduct a full examination to determine any possible injuries. You can also return if further symptoms or injuries develop. At Gardens Urgent Care, you can rely on us to provide fast emergency care after an auto accident.

Gardens Urgent Care treats victims of auto accidents all over Palm Beach County, including the cities of Greenacres, Jupiter, Lake Worth, North Palm Beach, Royal Palm Beach, Wellington and West Palm Beach, from two convenient locations seven days a week.
