Your child’s regular pediatrician probably treats patients between 8 am and 5 pm during the week, but your child may get sick or hurt in the evening, over the weekend or on a holiday. Seeing a doctor quickly when the unexpected happens provides parents with reassurance and helps children feel better. For this reason, many parents take their children to a hospital emergency room.

Hospital Emergency Room vs. Urgent Care

In 2006, parents took their babies to an emergency room for treatment at a rate of 84.5 out of every 100 infants. ⁽¹⁾ Children under the age of 15 visited emergency rooms most often for the treatment of fevers, coughs, vomiting or earaches. ⁽¹⁾ Wait times at emergency rooms can be unpredictable, but it’s not unheard of to wait several hours to be seen by a doctor.

Waiting with a sick child in a noisy, crowded emergency room can be difficult. Gardens Urgent Care offers a more relaxed setting with a staff of caring, knowledgeable professionals. • Digestive upset, including vomiting and diarrhea

Some serious or life-threatening injuries require emergency room treatment. Take your child to the emergency room for: severe allergic reactions (hives, swelling of the face or tongue, trouble breathing), chest pain, severe abdominal pain, sudden blurry vision or dizziness, seizures, severe burns or if your child coughs up or vomits blood.

At Gardens Urgent Care, you don’t need an appointment. Our medical clinic offers evening, weekend and holiday service, but we’re open during regular business hours, too.
